POETRY: PLACES
A lazy day in Verdancy
One standing
Two sleeping
Three eating
On the ridge
To catch the breeze
Contentment rising
From their warm hides
Rare blue skies in early spring
Nothing new to seasoned field dwellers
Silent company
Mutual enjoyment
Duly Noted

Gentle Restoration
No fanfare
Or period of notice
A nonchalant appearance
Calm returning
But great joy for us
Gently perusing their meadow
The old friends seem pleased with the familiar
Numbering six
A dwindle but far from the end
The welcome is warm in the hearts of those who know.
The scene is complete.

The Inevitable Demise
(Requiem for a cow)
Towards the end:
Let the others roam
Content to lie down and chew
Long contentment
A tight group
The normal ups and downs
Last greens:
Going through the motions
The last few days
Five stomachs more silent now
Unlike the golden years
Grass to high yield milk
Final sleep:
A still night
The owl hoots a farewell
Warm breath flows over from friends
Moonlight seeps across
Peace
Removal:
A sad discovery
The tractor trundles over
A collection of sorts
Never a dignified way
But care is evident
The Vigil:
They know
The group comes together
Some standing others lying
Calling has ceased
Grief shared
Memories:
That silhouette
At the setting sun
Serenity
Part of the familiar
Already missed
