POETRY: THE NATURAL WORLD
Gap Between the Trees
They have a point
Trees
Our arrogance makes us deaf and stupid
Trees talk about us
Mycelium networks
Airborne pheromones
Trees laugh at us
Humans!
So little understanding of ecosystems
Trees despair of us
Supposed guardians but lightweights
Rootless and clueless
Trees disregard us
Moving on
Let the insects have a go

And so the rain continues to fall
As I pick my way down the rock strewn path
In front of me, streams of water excavate the light moraine
A reshaping of the landscape
My neoteric experience
The hills wrapped in the eiderdown of the dark cloud look down
Comfort welcomed on their lonely vigil
I see a mass of trees
Old and stunted
But full of wisdom and joy
A life well lived
Not easy or without pain
Such trials shaped and honed
The living wood
Fissures and scars whisper the truth
I stop in a glade
To listen and learn
A gentle creaking is all I hear
As the breeze moves the ancient boughs
In perfect harmony
A deeper voice
Speaks to me inside
Of simple delights
Family
Close friends
Each link individual but connected
Specific stories but tipped into the mixing bowl
Streaks of vibrant colour combinations
Exquisite aromas
The depth and the breadth makes the beauty
A taste of what is to come
